Vietnam places second at international fencing tournament in Malaysia
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s fencers ended the NS Matrix Fencing Festival 2026 with an impressive haul of two golds, three silvers and six bronzes to finish runner-up overall at the tournament held from June 27-30 in Malaysia.
The NS Matrix Fencing Festival is an international tournament organised by the Negeri Sembilan Fencing Association, drawing hundreds of athletes and clubs from Malaysia and other countries in the region.
Notably, Vietnam Royal Fencing Club posted strong results in youth events. In the men’s U17 team sabre event, Vietnamese fencers claimed silver after losing to Kulai Fencing Association in the final.
Meanwhile, the women’s U12 sabre team won bronze, while the women’s U17 sabre team added another bronze after finishing joint third alongside a combined Brunei team.
According to the organisers, Vietnam Royal Fencing Club finished the tournament with two golds, three silvers and six bronzes to place second overall. The best club award went to Triumph Fencing Studio of Malaysia.
2026 is a busy year for Vietnamese fencing as its athletes continue to compete in major tournaments, including the Asian Championships, while preparing for the 2026 Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Fencing Championships, which Vietnam will host in Quang Ninh province in October.
