The victory ensured that Minh will be the only Vietnamese representative during the competition’s quarterfinal stage, which will take place at 19:00 on September 13. The Vietnamese player is scheduled to take on No.2 seed Sourabh Verma of India, world No.38.
Despite Minh’s success, his teammates, Nguyen Hai Dang and Pham Cao Cuong, suffered elimination after being beaten in the second round of the men’s single event.
Also competing in the tournament was Minh’s wife, Vu Thi Trang, who lost to No.5 seed Zhang Yi Man of China during the second round of the women’s single event.
