Vietnam leave 2022 AFF Women’s Championship empty handed

VOV.VN - Huynh Nhu scored two goals but she could not help Vietnam win a bronze medal in a 2022 AFF Women’s Championship match in Indonesia on July 17 against Myanmar.

Coach Mai Duc Chung kept his promise when he sent in experienced players like Huynh Nhu, Tuyet Dung, Thuy Trang, Duong Thi Van, Hai Yen in the starting lineup.

However, Vietnam conceded a goal in the 10th minute, when goalkeeper Khong Thi Hang pushed the ball into the foot of Myanmar striker San Thaw Thaw who did not miss the scoring chance.

Captain Huynh Nhu earned an equalizer 14 minutes later before putting Vietnam ahead with another goal five minutes ahead of the break.

In the second half, heavy rain affected Vietnamese players’ performance while their Myanmar opponents applied the pressing tactics.

Both sides scored four more goals, including three by Myanmar.

Suffering a 3-4 loss to Myanmar, Vietnam left the tournament without a single medal.

At a press briefing after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung congratulated Myanmar and admitted responsibility for Vietnam’s loss.

Thailand and the Philippines are to vie for the gold medal in the final match in the evening of the same day.
