Vietnam hold firm in world's top 100 despite skipping June FIFA Days
VOV.VN - Vietnam have retained 99th place in the latest FIFA rankings and remain Southeast Asia's second-highest ranked team despite not playing during June FIFA Days.
June FIFA Days provided national teams with an opportunity to play international friendlies and collect ranking points.
Indonesia recorded the biggest rise in Southeast Asia, climbing four places to 118th after victories over Oman and Mozambique. Malaysia, the Philippines and Cambodia also improved their positions.
Thailand slipped one place to 94th but remained Southeast Asia's highest-ranked team. Singapore, Brunei and Timor-Leste each dropped one position.
Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos were unchanged, with Vietnam holding on to 99th place.
Although Vietnam have held on to 99th place, the gap to teams immediately below them has narrowed. El Salvador moved to 100th, while Tajikistan are 101st.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik's side did not arrange international friendlies during June FIFA Days, allowing players to complete the 2025-26 domestic season with their clubs.
The national team is expected to regroup later this month before travelling to the Republic of Korea (RoK) for a training camp ahead of the defence of their ASEAN Cup title, with the tournament set to begin in July.
Matches at the ASEAN Cup will count towards the FIFA rankings, although the impact on ranking points is expected to be limited. Significant ranking changes may come at the FIFA ASEAN Cup in September, a tournament organised by FIFA.
