Vietnam gain advantage in World Cup 2022 qualifiers

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national men’s football team have a greater chance of finishing above China in the qualifier for the 2022 World Cup following news of China having to play their home games at neutral venues.

This decision has been made due to the quarantine restrictions currently being imposed by Chinese authorities, with the Chinese team unable to play at home.

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has therefore decided that its national team will face Saudi Arabia in Group B on March 24 at the Sharjah stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Previously, China’s home games against Australia, Vietnam, and Oman had been played in the UAE.

With Saudi Arabia fiercely competing for their ticket to the 2022 World Cup, China will face a tough challenge when they take them on as they aim to stay in fifth position in Group B.

If China lose to Saudi Arabia and Vietnam are able to beat Oman at the My Dinh National Stadium on March 24, the Chinese team will drop to bottom of Group B.

Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Australia are in the process of competing for a place at the World Cup finals, while the three remaining teams in Group B, Oman, China, and Vietnam are trying not to finish bottom.
