Vietnam enter FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 after a draw against Lebanon

VOV.VN - Vietnam secured the final Asian ticket for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 after a 1-1 draw against Lebanon in their second leg play-off game on May 25 thanks to their away goal.

Chau Doan Phat dribbled past Ahmad Kheir El Dine before slotting past goalkeeper Hussein Hamdani, putting Vietnam ahead in the second half.

In less than a minute later, Lebanon players immediately applied the power play tactic, with Ali Tneich finishing off a series of pass with a simple tap in from close range to equalize the score.

They continued bringing to bear mounting pressure in the last minutes, but it was Vietnamese players who sat back in defence and repelled attacks, denying their rivals’ attempts and preserving the result.

The 1-1 draw on aggregate was enough for Vietnam to earn the final Asian ticket for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 to be held in Lithuania.

This is the second time Vietnam have qualified for the global tournament.

In its twitter account, the world's football governing body FIFA has congratulated Vietnam on its second participation in the World Cup.

Vietnam now join Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan and Thailand, who also trounced Iraq in another play-off tie on the same day, in the finals, scheduled to kick off this September.
