Vietnam drawn in same group as defending champion Japan for Asian U17 finals

VOV.VN - The draw for the 2023 U17 Asian Cup was held on March 30, with Vietnam being placed into Group D alongside the likes of defending champion Japan, India, and Uzbekistan.

Vietnam are scheduled to play against India, Japan, and Uzbekistan on June 17, June 20, and June 23, respectively.

This comes after the Vietnamese side topped Group F in the qualification stage after winning all three matches and earning a place in the finals.

Before the draw, the Vietnamese U17 team had been placed in the third seed group with Malaysia, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia.

Japan will be Vietnam's toughest challenge in Group D, while India and Uzbekistan will also prove to be tricky opponents.

Elsewhere, hosts Thailand have been drawn in an easier group with Laos, Malaysia, and Yemen.

The 2023 U17 Asian Cup is scheduled to take place in Thailand from June 15 to July 2. The top four teams that progress through to the semi-final round will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup which will take place in October in Peru.

The team led by head coach Hoang Anh Tuan will gather in April to begin preparations for the 2023 U17 Asian Cup.

They will spend two months taking part in training camps in Binh Thuan and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces due to both localities having similar weather to Thailand.
