Vietnam drawn against Brazil at Futsal World Cup

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese futsal team have been placed in Group D alongside of Brazil, Panama, and the Czech Republic, according to the draw for the 2021 Futsal World Cup which took place on June 1.

Progressing from the group will be a difficult challenge for the team led by head coach Pham Minh Giang, particularly as the Brazilian team have won the FIFA Futsal World Cup five times.

Elsewhere, the other Southeast Asian representative Thailand have been drawn into Group C alongside Portugal, Morocco, and the Solomon Islands.

The 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup will get underway in the cities of Kaunas, Vilnius, and Klaipėda in Lithuania between September 12 and October 3, with a total of 24 teams competing across six groups.

The top 12 teams and the best four third-placed teams will progress out of the group stage and into the quarter-finals.

During the 2016 version of the global competition held in Colombia, the country were led by head coach Bruno Formoso and recorded a historical triumph over Guatemala to make it through to the quarter-final round for the first time in the nation’s history.

The draw comes following the Vietnamese futsal team being put into the fourth seed group alongside Morocco, Uzbekistan, Angola, Venezuela, and the United States.

Ahead of international tournaments, FIFA divides each of the teams into seeds based on their various achievements during the past five FIFA Futsal World Cups in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.
