Vietnam attends ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai led a Vietnamese delegation at the fifth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports during the start of the event in the Philippines on October 9.

During his opening remarks at the meeting, Deputy Minister Khanh Hai noted how co-operation between ASEAN member states is carried out in an effective manner through treaties, forums, conferences, development programmes, in addition to cultural and sports activities which are held regionally.

Sporting activities serve to deepen understanding among ASEAN member states and strengthen friendship throughout the region.

Vietnam will continue to co-ordinate efforts alongside fellow ASEAN countries to organise a wider range of activities with the purpose of promoting sports and reinforcing solidarity among the bloc, Deputy Minister Hai added.

Held every two years, the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports is hosted by a different ASEAN member on each occasion, therefore providing opportunities for delegates to discuss action plans regarding future sporting events, and sports participation as a whole.

In addition to the event, the second ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports is also being held simultaneously. As a result, an action plan on sports for the 2016- 2020 period between ASEAN and Japan is being followed.
