Twenty Vietnamese karate athletes set for Asian Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam will send a 20-member squad to the 2026 Asian Karate Championships, which will open in Indonesia on June 18.
The team has selected its strongest line-up for both kata and kumite events, including several of its leading athletes.
Vietnam’s karate team is currently training at the National Sports Training Centre as it finalizes preparations for the continental tournament. Coaches said the athletes remain focused and ready for the competition.
The championships will be the team's first important international competition of the year and will also provide an opportunity for coaches and athletes to assess regional rivals as part of preparations for the next Asian Games.
At the 2025 Asian Karate Championships, Vietnam won four medals, including three golds and one bronze. The gold medals came in the women’s team kata, women’s team kumite and the women’s 55kg kumite event. Several key members of last year's team will also compete in this year's tournament in Indonesia.
According to organisers, 412 athletes from 33 teams across Asia have registered for the championships. A technical meeting and draw will be held before competition begins on June 18.
