Top shuttler Thuy Linh exits Korea Masters 2026 in first round
VOV.VN - Vietnam's top badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh was eliminated in the opening round of the Korea Masters 2026 after losing to China's rising star Xu Wen Jing in the women's singles on August 5.
The world No. 23 entered the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament shortly after finishing runner-up at the Chinese Taipei Open 2026, with the back-to-back events appearing to take a toll on her fitness.
Despite being seeded second at the tournament and standing 70 places above her opponent in the BWF rankings, the Vietnamese shuttler suffered a straight-games defeat, losing 21-10, 21-10.
The 19-year-old Xu played with confidence throughout the match, combining precise shot placement with aggressive attacking play to control the contest. The Chinese youngster has already emerged as one of the sport's promising talents, having previously upset world No. 8 Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan.
The defeat brought Thuy Linh's two-tournament run to an end after her impressive runner-up finish at the Chinese Taipei Open 2026.
Although Thuy Linh made an early exit, other Vietnamese players remain in action at the tournament.
Vu Thi Trang is set to face Wang Pei-yu of Chinese Taipei, while Nguyen Hai Dang will take on Wang Po-wei, also of Chinese Taipei. In the mixed doubles, Tran Dinh Manh and Pham Thi Khanh advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Germany's Patrick Volkmann and Franziska Volkmann.
