Thai Son Bac crowned national Futsal champions after 16 years

The side finished the season with 37 points, one ahead of long-time opponents Thai Son Nam, who had briefly moved to the top of the standings after defeating Sahako 4-2 earlier in the day.

Knowing that only a victory would secure the championship, Thai Son Bac entered the decisive match under intense pressure at Chanh Hung Futsal Club Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.

After a cautious start, the team gradually took control thanks to superior squad depth and attacking quality. Cong Dai broke the deadlock just before halftime, easing the pressure before Thai Son Bac dominated the second half.

Brazilian forward Mota doubled the advantage early after the restart. As Tan Hiep Hung switched to the power-play tactic in search of a comeback, Thai Son Bac repeatedly capitalised on the extra space, adding four more goals through swift counterattacks.

Cong Dai completed a hat-trick as Thai Son Bac sealed a convincing 6-0 victory and lifted the league trophy.

Alongside the championship and the VND500 million (approximately US$19,000) prize, the club also celebrated another individual honour as Minh Quang was named the tournament's Best Player.

Reward for years of rebuilding

Head coach Victor Acosta Garcia described the title as the result of years of patient investment in young talent.

After the match, the Spanish coach said he was most proud of the team's collective development and their ability to translate consistent training performances into success on the court.

He noted that Thai Son Bac maintained high intensity and concentration throughout the closing stages of the season, qualities that ultimately proved decisive in the title race.

Hat-trick hero Cong Dai credited the coaching staff for giving the squad greater confidence and tactical maturity.

"The coaching staff has helped us improve tremendously. We kept reminding ourselves that only a win would make our dream come true," he said.

Milestone for Vietnamese futsal

The 2026 season also marked the 10th anniversary of the partnership between the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and HDBank in organising the country's national futsal competitions.

At the awards ceremony, Vu Hai Quang, vice president of VOV and deputy head of the tournament's steering committee, said the past decade has laid a solid foundation for the sport's development in Vietnam.

He highlighted improvements in competition quality, tournament organisation, media coverage and growing public interest as key achievements.

According to Quang, this year's success reflected four major factors, namely higher technical standards, closer coordination among organisers, stronger support from media and digital platforms, and, above all, the enthusiasm of futsal fans.

He expressed confidence that future tournaments would continue to inspire young athletes, promote sports participation and strengthen Vietnam's futsal development.

The next major event on the domestic calendar, the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Cup, is scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City this September.

Vietnam invited to 2026 Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand
