Sri Lankan referee in charge of Malaysia match
VOV.VN - Crishantha Dilan Perera Hettikankanamge of Sri Lanka will officiate the upcoming clash between Vietnam and Malaysia on June 8 at the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
Born in 1978, Dilan Perera is one of 33 international football referees officiating matches at the tournament.
He has refereed at a number of important championships, including games at the Asian Cup, the AFC Cup, and the AFC Champions League.
Previously, the referee had also been in charge of Vietnam’s fixture against Jordan in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification back in 2018.
After recording two respectable draws against Thailand and the Republic of Korea, the U23 squad must win their final group stage fixture if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the next round.
If Vietnam beats Malaysia, and Thailand holds the Republic of Korea (RoK) to either a 0-0 or 1-1 draw, then the Vietnamese team will progress through to the next round.
In the event that the match between Thailand and the RoK finishes 2-2, Vietnam will have to beat Malaysia by at least four goals to earn a place in the quarterfinals.
Moreover, if either Thailand or RoK win and Vietnam is able to beat Malaysia, the Vietnamese U23 squad will definitely qualify for the next round.
Vietnam are scheduled to play Malaysia at 8 p.m. (Vietnam time) this evening.
