Six rapid team gold medals added to Vietnam at Asian Youth Chess Championship
VOV.VN - Vietnam secured six gold, two silver, and four bronze medals in the rapid team events at the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026, currently underway in Shenzhen, China.
The tournament draws young chess players across age groups from U8 to U18, competing in classical, rapid, and blitz events.
The strong performance in the team category follows an impressive start for the Vietnamese delegation. Earlier in the individual rapid events, Vietnamese players earned eight medals, including two golds, four silvers, and two bronzes.
In the team events, Vietnam also won two silver medals in the girls' U10 and boys' U14 categories, alongside four bronze medals in the boys' U8, girls' U8, boys' U10, and girls' U12 groups.
Winning six gold medals in the rapid team events highlights the depth of Vietnam's youth chess talent across both male and female divisions.
The results strengthen the country’s position among the leading youth chess programs in the region, competing against major teams including host China, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Iran.
Following the rapid events, players will compete in the classical and blitz categories, where the Vietnamese team aims to add to its medal tally at the tournament which will run till July 25.
