Quach Thi Lan bows out of world athletics championship

VOV.VN - Vietnamese runner Quach Thị Lan has been eliminated from the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Eugene, the US, after she failed to progress to the semifinals in the women’s 400m hurdles.

Lan received a wildcard entry to the tournament after Vietnam had not earned any official berth from the qualification phase.

However, the athlete disappointingly finished with a time of 58.84 seconds, whilst five of her seven rivals competing in Heat 3 reached the finish line in less than 56 seconds.

The Vietnamese runner only finished in front of one other athlete who gave up midway through the race.

Out of all five heats of the women's 400m hurdles, Lan ranked 35th out of a total of 37 athletes.

The 26-year-old girl was the only Vietnamese track-and-field athlete to compete at the Tokyo Olympics last July, during which she qualified for 400m hurdles semi-finals - the country’s best-ever athletics performance at an Olympic games.

Lan won the 400m hurdles back in the 2018 Asian Games and the 400m hurdles in the Asian championship in 2019.

She also claimed two SEA Games titles in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, in addition to a bronze medal in the 400m last month.
