Premier League trophy returns to Hanoi, fans gather in large crowds

The original Premier League trophy has returned to Vietnam as part of the league’s global Trophy Tour, with FPT Play organising a special fan event in Hanoi on August 30.

Fans began gathering at Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street in the afternoon before the event opened, eager to see the trophy in person and take photographs with one of the most recognisable symbols of English football.

The trophy is made of fine silver, stands about 1.04 metres tall and weighs 25.4 kilograms, with its crown coated in 24-karat gold.

By the end of the 2025-26 season, the base had been engraved with the names of 34 league champions, representing seven clubs that have won the Premier League title.

Its return to Vietnam is part of the Premier League’s promotional activities ahead of the 2026-27 season, bringing the league closer to its Vietnamese fan base.

The event offered much more than a chance to see the trophy. From the evening of August 30, singers including Anh Tu, LyLy and Trang Phap performed and interacted with fans.

Anh Tu, a Chelsea supporter, said appearing alongside the trophy was a special experience. Trang Phap, who said she had supported Manchester United since childhood, also described seeing the trophy in person for the first time as memorable.

The evening’s main sporting attraction was a watch party for Chelsea’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion, one of the headline fixtures of the league’s second round.

Combining the trophy display with music, fan activities and live football turned the Trophy Tour stop into a broader community gathering rather than simply a promotional appearance.

FPT Play currently holds the broadcasting and media rights for the Premier League in Vietnam through the end of the 2030-31 season. From the 2026-27 season, the service is broadcasting the league across both IPTV and OTT platforms, with picture quality of up to 4K on a range of devices.

The Premier League’s original trophy returning to Vietnam after nearly a decade also brings an aspect of the competition that fans usually experience through screens into a physical public space.
