Players enjoy bonus after beating Thailand at semi-finals of AFF U23 Championship

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has rewarded the Vietnamese U23 national men’s football team a VND300 million bonus following their 1-0 win over Thailand on February 22, with the team making the 2022 AFF U23 Championship’s semi-finals.

Vietnam secured a comfortable win over Thailand thanks to goal scorer Nguyen Trung Thanh to progress to the AFF U23 Championship’s semi-finals as winners of Group C.

Head coach Dinh The Nam's young squad, comprised mostly of players from the U21 team, were almost forced to forfeit the match on February 22 as 11 out of 23 players in the squad tested positive for COVID-19.

The VFF was therefore forced to name four last-minute additions to the squad, with these players arriving in Cambodia just six hours before the game.

This marks Vietnam’s U23s’ fourth consecutive win against their Thai rivals since 2017.

Previously, the team had also received a VND300 million bonus from the VFF after defeating Singapore 7-0.

So far they have been granted a total of VND600 million for their strong performance in the AFF U23 Championship.

Vietnam will play East Timor in the semi-final round at 7:30 p.m. on February 24 (local time).
