Phu Quoc to host first national triathlon race

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s first triathlon race BIM Group 5150 Phu Quoc will get underway from November 18 to 20 on Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang province, bringing a fresh experience for participating athletes.

Around 400 athletes from 34 countries and territories worldwide are expected to register for the competition, said organisers at the press conference recently held in Ho Chi Minh City.

The tournament will be part of the 5150 Triathlon Series. Athletes must compete in a 51.5km race, including a 1.5km swim, 40km bike race, and 10km run.

The 1.5km equilateral triangle-shaped swim course will run in a clockwise direction, starting in front of Shell Square beach.

A 40km bike course of open road under the sun consists of two 20-km loops, with each loop riding out from Phu Quoc Marina’s famous Shell Square to Phu Quoc Marina’s Main Gate.

The race is due to end with a 10km, two-loop course. On the first loop, athletes will cruise through the road in front of the Intercontinental Hotel, wrap around Marina Square Phu Quoc, before making their way towards a beautiful beachside road where they can breathe the sea air with every stride forward.

Reaching the U-turn on the beachside road, athletes will then head back north towards the iconic sands finish line, running past the finish line and heading towards the transition area to complete their first loop.

Athletes will then repeat the same route as part of the second loop.
