VFF ends Troussier's contract after Vietnam’s 0-3 loss to Indonesia

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has decided to terminate the contract with chief coach Philippe Troussier ahead of schedule following Vietnam’s poor performances in the World Cup qualification.

The decision was made shortly after Vietnam conceded a 0-3 disappointing loss to Indonesia at My Dinh National Stadium on March 26 evening. Vietnam also lost 0-1 to the same opponents in their away game on March 21.

VFF leaders met Troussier after the game and decided to end the contract with the French coach, starting on March 26, 2024. Troussier’s contract was originally scheduled to last from March 2023 to July 31, 2026.

Troussier thanked the players, clubs, VFF as well as fans for strong support they have provided, and apologized to the fans for the team’s poor showing that did not meet their expectations.

Meanwhile, VFF recognized Troussier’s contributions to Vietnamese football, and at the same time apologized to the fans for the team’s poor performances, hoping the fans would continue to place their trust and support in Vietnamese football in general and national teams in particular.

Under his management, the senior team lost 10 out of 11 matches, while the U23 team only won a bronze medal at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
