Panda Cup 2025: U22 Vietnam defeat hosts U22 China 1-0 in opener
VOV.VN - U22 Vietnam made a strong start to the CFA Team China Panda Cup 2025, defeating hosts U22 China 1-0 on the evening of November 12.
The only goal of the match came in the 81st minute from defender Pham Minh Phuc of Ha Noi Police FC.
Despite having to travel to China in three separate groups and not fielding their strongest lineup, head coach Dinh Hong Vinh’s side entered the game with great confidence.
Key players such as Le Viktor and Nguyen Dinh Bac were rested, but the young Vietnamese still held their ground well against the physically superior Chinese team.
The first half saw an even contest, with both sides creating chances but failing to convert. Goalkeeper Cao Van Binh made several crucial saves to keep Vietnam in the game, while Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Thanh Nhan missed opportunities to open the scoring at the other end.
In the second half, coach Vinh made several substitutions, bringing on Van Thuan, Quoc Cuong, Minh Phuc, Ngoc My, and Phi Hoang, which added energy and pace to Vietnam’s play. Despite facing a solid 5-3-2 defensive setup from the hosts, Vietnam maintained good shape, composure, and tactical discipline.
The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when a defensive error from China U22 allowed Pham Minh Phuc to pounce and slot the ball home from close range, securing the narrow win for Vietnam.
The 1-0 victory not only gave U22 Vietnam three valuable points but also highlighted their fighting spirit, teamwork, and clear progress as they prepare for the coming 33rd SEA Games.
