Over 8,000 athletes attend HCM City Marathon 2018

More than 8,000 domestic and foreign runners participated in the Ho Chi Minh City Marathon 2018, which was held in the city on January 14.

Vietnamese runners triumphed in the tournament’s professional category. Runner Ngo Dung secured the first place in the men’s 42 km run with a time of 2:42, while Pha Le was the winner in the women’s category after a time of 3:08.


Meanwhile, Phuc Cao and Phuong Nguyen came in first in the men’s and women’s 21 km events, respectively.

In the amateur category, Kim Mitsu of Japan and Jep Naum of Kenya finished first in the men’s and women’s 42km events, respectively.

The HCM City Marathon 2018 comprises 42 km, 21 km, 10 km and 5 km events, with the Phu My Hung Urban Area in District 7 being the starting point.

According to organizers, the 42 km event is expected to receive recognition from the International Association of Athletics Federations/Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (IAAF/AIMS) in the coming time.
