VOV.VN - More than 2,500 athletes are set to take part in Vietnam’s largest triathlon competition IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam, which will take place in the central coastal city of Da Nang this weekend, marking the return of the event following a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This will be the sixth time the tournament has been held in Da Nang, with both local and foreign athletes expecting to compete in 1.9km swimming, 90km cycling, and 21.1km running events.
Running with the theme of ‘Embracing Challenges’, the event will officially kick off on May 8, while other competitions such as SPRINT Vietnam and IRONKIDS, will also be held to encourage the spirit of sports lovers and to help nurture the development of future generations.
Nguyen Trong Thao, deputy director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, said the tournament has contributed to elevating the image of the central city whilst simultaneously reviving the local tourism industry in the post-pandemic period.
He went on to express his hope that the international competition will attract a large number of outstanding athletes from all over the world, as well as foreign visitors to Da Nang moving forward.
