Over 13,000 athletes join HCM City International Marathon

VOV.VN - The fourth iteration of Techcombank-sponsored Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon kicked off on April 09, drawing the participation of approximately 13,000 athletes from 44 cities and provinces nationwide.

Among the runners, 5,500 come from 60 businesses and 11 running clubs, according to the HCM City Municipal Department of Tourism.

The long-awaited race, the biggest of its kind in Vietnam, is comprised of a full 42km marathon, a half 21km marathon, along with both 10km and 5km runs.

Joining the race, athletes will traverse HCM City’s historic landmarks in six districts, such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Municipal Post Office, Nguyen Hue Walking Boulevard or Thu Thiem Bridge.  

The three-day run is to promote the city’s land and people as well as its tourism potential among domestic and international friends, said Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of HCM City Department of Tourism.

Meanwhile, Mai Ba Hung, Deputy Director of the Municipal Department of Culture and Sports said the event aims to encourage sports and physical training movements and a healthy living environment in the city.
