National U23 side to train hard ahead of Asian qualifiers

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese men’s U23 national team are planning to hold two training camps in preparation for 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers between October 23 and 31.

According to Tran Quoc Tuan, vice president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the federation, head coach Park Hang-seo, and members of the coaching board, will hold talks and devise plans for the team.

Vietnam aim to progress to the AFC U23 Asian Cup finals for the fourth consecutive times as they did in 2016, 2018, and 2020.

A number of outstanding footballers who showed their quality in previous tournaments, including Doan Van Hau, Nguyen Van Toan, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, and Nguyen Huu Thang, will continue to be key players of this year’s Vietnam U23 side.

Vietnam have been in Group I for the qualifiers and are set to face hosts Taiwain (China) on October 27 in their opening match.

Two days later they will compete against Hong Kong (China) on October 29, followed by a game against Myanmar on October 31 in the final match of the group stage.

A total of 19 teams in the East Zone will join 23 West Zone teams in competing in the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers between October 23 and 31.

The 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the final round scheduled to take place from June 1 to 19 in Uzbekistan next year.

Vietnam do have history in the competition after finishing second at the 2018 tournament, although they were knocked out in the group stage in 2020.
