National squad touch down in Indonesia for ASEAN Cup clash
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national team assembled in Bogor on August 1 after a six-hour transit from Hanoi, shifting focus to their key ASEAN Cup 2026 Group A fixture against host nation Indonesia at Pakansari Stadium.
Following a four-hour flight to Jakarta and a two-hour drive to Bogor, head coach Kim Sang Sik opted for recovery over an immediate on-field session. At the hotel, players took to the pool to ease travel fatigue and maintain physical conditioning.
"Vietnam are scheduled to hold their sole practice session at Pakansari Stadium on the afternoon of August 2, giving coach Kim a final chance to fine-tune tactics ahead of the clash."
Pakansari Stadium has been an unhappy hunting ground for Vietnamese football, having hosted the U23 side's 2018 Asian Games heartbreak, a semifinal defeat to South Korea followed by a loss to the UAE in the bronze-medal match.
Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai, along with defenders Pham Xuan Manh and Doan Van Hau, experienced that 2018 run firsthand, with Quang Hai missing from the spot during the penalty shootout against the UAE.
Meanwhile, Indonesia returned home after securing a 3-0 away win over Timor-Leste. Rather than traveling straight to Bogor, the hosts remained stationed in Jakarta to train and recover, planning to arrive in Bogor on matchday to streamline their preparations.
The ASEAN Cup 2026 Group A match between Vietnam and Indonesia will kick off at 8:30 PM on August 3.
