National squad complete quarantine period

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese men’s national football team finished their quarantine period in Ho Chi Minh City on June 30 and were permitted to leave the isolation facility and return to their homes.

The team returned to the country on June 17 after competing in the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with all fixtures taking place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to restrictions put in place due to the global spread of the COVID-19.

The squad were put into isolation in District 7 in Ho Chi Minh City for seven days before receiving approval from the Ho Chi Minh City’s Center for Disease Control to compete the next seven days in a concentrated place.

During their 14-day quarantine period, each member of the team had samples taken as part of COVID-19 testing, with everyone testing negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Previously, all of the players have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic before flying to the UAE to compete in World Cup qualifiers.

The draw for the third round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 2 p.m. on July 1 (Vietnam time).

A total of 12 Asian teams are to be divided into six seed groups, with Vietnam seeded in Pot 6 alongside Lebanon.

This marks the first time that the national team have progressed through to the third round of World Cup qualifiers. The first match is set to get underway on September 2 and will run until March 29, 2022.
