National 25m-pool Swimming and Diving Champs attracts 250 athletes

VOV.VN - The central province of Thua Thien-Hue welcomes the start of the National 25m-pool Swimming and Diving Championships on April 5, drawing the participation of 250 male and female athletes from across the country.

Participants are set to compete for 64 sets of medals, including 24 medals in the diving and 40 medals in the swimming.

Bui Thanh Dung, deputy head of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the tournament is held annually for the purpose of selecting the best talents for the national team ahead of regional tournaments such as the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which are scheduled to be held in the country later this year.

The organisers of the competition have implemented a range of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures in an effort to ensure good health for participants throughout the tournament, noted Dung, who is also head of the competition’s Organising Board.

This year’s event will see the participation of a number of outstanding faces, including Nguyen Thi Anh Vien of the Military team, Hoang Quy Phuoc of Da Nang city, and Tran Duy Khoi of Ho Chi Minh City, who claimed several medals at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines in 2019.

The tournament is scheduled to last through to April 7.
