According to Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper, broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV) has made contact with the broadcasting rights holder. Despite this, negotiations have halted with VTV being unable to meet the asking price which is several times higher than that of previous fixtures.
A source revealed that the asking price is at least US$300,000 (nearly VND7 billion), equal to the price that Next Media had to pay for the rights to broadcast two of Vietnam’s matches at the King’s Cup 2019.
Despite the game against Thailand still being available, Next Media have completed the purchase of the broadcasting rights to all four of Vietnam’s home games the World Cup 2022 qualification campaign.
These fixtures include ties against Malaysia on October 10, the UAE on November 14, Thailand on November 19, and Indonesia on June 4, 2020.
