After recording this impressive victory, Liem climbs to ninth place in the competition’s rankings with 6.5 points, just a single point behind leading player Fabiano of the United States and 0.5 points less than the seven other second-placed players. In addition, Liem has added 3.3 Elo points during the course of the tournament.
With the championship title looking increasingly unlikely, the Vietnamese player stills a chance to finish in a higher position if he wins his final match against David Paravyan of Russia, Elo rating 2602.
