Le Quang Liem draws first match at FIDE Chess World Cup’s Round 4
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem recorded a draw in his first standard chess match at Round 4 of the FIDE Chess World Cup 2025, held in India on November 11.
Despite having the first move with white pieces, Liem remained cautious, knowing that his Indian opponent Karthik Venkataraman would not be easy to defeat. After 36 moves, neither player could gain an advantage, and the game ended in a draw.
Both Le Quang Liem and Karthik Venkataraman will have the opportunity to improve their results in the second standard match, scheduled for November 12 (local time).
If the match also ends in a draw, the two will proceed to rapid and blitz tie-breaks to determine the final winner.
Le Quang Liem is Vietnam’s top performer at the FIDE Chess World Cup. The grandmaster is aiming to advance as far as possible in the tournament.
This year, Vietnam sent grandmaster Le Quang Liem and young talent Banh Gia Huy to the tournament. Gia Huy was eliminated after losing in the first round. Liem, with an Elo rating of 2729, is ranked 13th out of 206 participants.
