Indonesian media: Vietnam step up preparations for ASEAN Cup 2026
VOV.VN - Indonesian media continue to closely follow Vietnam’s build-up to ASEAN Cup 2026, particularly the team’s training camp in the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the inclusion of naturalized players.
According to Indonesian sports outlet Bola, as defending champions and a Group A rival of Indonesia, Vietnam are stepping up efforts to retain their ASEAN Cup title. The team is seen as one of Indonesia’s toughest opponents under head coach John Herdman.
With the pressure of defending their title and facing Indonesia early in the group stage, Vietnam have traveled to the RoK for a training camp under head coach Kim Sang Sik. The squad currently consists of 27 players.
Vietnam’s early build-up has also drawn attention from Indonesian football observers. Football analyst Ronny Pangemanan, widely known as Ropan, said the overseas training camp showed Vietnam were taking the tournament very seriously.
According to Ropan, Vietnam are also counting on naturalized players, including three Brazil-born players, namely Nguyen Tai Loc, Xuan Son and Hoang Hen.
He said Vietnam had prepared thoroughly and was placing particular focus on the group-stage clash with Indonesia. In his view, Vietnam are determined to avoid defeat against Indonesia and are doing everything possible to defend their title.
