Hoang Nam aims to compete in Grand Slam

VOV.VN - After rising to 259th position in the world rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), local tennis player Ly Hoang Nam is targeting qualifying for a Grand Slam, the highest ambition in his career.

Nam is currently working hard to earn a ticket for the qualifying round of the Australia Open 2023. Along with his coach Tran Quoc Phong, he is preparing to attend the M25 Jakarta Tournament 2022 slated for October 24-30.

Following this, he will then fly to Japan to take part in three ATP Challenger 80 tournaments in Matsuyama, Kobe, and Yokkaichi from November 7 to November 27.

Nam is expected to rise further to 241st place in the ATP rankings after gaining 25 points from wining the M25 Tay Ninh tournament.

As a result of this boost, Nam will have to retain his position in the top ATP250 until 2023 to enter the qualifying round of the Australia Open. However, to ensure this Nam needs to rank 223rd in the ATP based on the criteria for selecting athletes for a Grand Slam tournament.

The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne. The tournament represents the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

A total of 128 players are due to participate in the qualifying round of Australian Open. Each one must win three rounds before making it to the main draw. Since the top 104 ranked players go straight to the main draw, the next 119 best players who sign must earn their spot by qualifying, whilst the remaining nine places are given to wildcard entries.
