HCM City Women’s FC to compete in AFC champions league for third straight year

The tournament will officially begin on July 2 with the preliminary stage draw at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur, where the match schedule will also be determined.

This year’s competition will feature a record 30 clubs. The 24 lowest-ranked teams will be divided into six groups of four and will play in a centralized round-robin format from August 17-23.

The six group winners will advance to the final stage, joining six clubs that have received direct entry: Naegohyang of North Korea, Melbourne City FC of Australia, Hwacheon KSPO WFC of the Republic of Korea (RoK), INAC Kobe Leonessa of Japan, Beijing Jingtan FC of China, and Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC.

This marks the third straight year Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC have represented Vietnam in the competition after winning the 2025 national championship.

In the previous two editions, Huynh Nhu and her teammates advanced past the group stage but were unable to overcome stronger opponents from China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Coached by Kim Chi, the team are in strong form after successfully defending their National Cup title and currently sit top of the standings in the 2026 National Women’s Football Championship after three rounds.
