HCM City to host SEA Youth Athletics Championships 2027
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Athletics Federation has selected Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City as the competition venue for the 2027 Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships for athletes in U18 age group.
Nguyen Manh Hung, general secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, stated that the selection was made right after the federation secured the rights to host the tournament from the Southeast Asian Athletics Federation, and the opening ceremony is slated for August 22, 2027, subject to any adjustments.
Hosting the championships is expected to provide Vietnam's young athletes with valuable international competition experience on home soil while supporting their long-term development ahead of future regional and international events.
The Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships for under-18 athletes is an annual competition showcasing the region's emerging track-and-field talents.
At the 2025 edition in Indonesia, organisers expanded the competition programme to include U20 events alongside the traditional U18 categories.
Young Vietnamese athletes have delivered strong performances in recent years, providing momentum ahead of the country's hosting role. At the 2025 edition, Vietnam finished second overall with 13 gold, 12 silver and six bronze medals. Gold medalists included Chau Ngoc Quynh Anh, Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh, Luong Xuan Son, Mai Ngoc Anh, Pham Xuan Tien, Nguyen Tan Khiem, Le Thi Nhu Quynh and Luong Thi Hong Diem.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese youth track-and-field team will build the line-up and aim for the highest results at the 2026 tournament.
