Hanoi serves as host to VOV Cup 2019

VOV.VN - The VOV Cup 2019 football tournament, organised by the Voice of Vietnam, successfully concluded in the stadium belonging to Hanoi University of Science and Technology on August 10.

The tournament is held as part of a range of activities to celebrate National Day, which falls on September 2, and 74 years since the founding of the Voice of Vietnam, which occurred on September 7, 1945.

The competition marks the first time that VOV has played host to a football tournament.

Upon addressing the crowd ahead of the start of the VOV Cup, Duong Hong Hai, vice chairman of VOV Trade Union, said the event serves to help improve the overall health and fitness of VOV staff members. In addition, the competition promotes exchanges among units throughout the country, and expects the event to take place annually in order to strengthen solidarity.

The four teams play in the semi-finals with both ties ending 4-2. The final of the tournament sees the VOV team face the team made up of Hanoi’s firefighters and police department.

The final see both teams play exciting football before ultimately drawing the fixture 3-3. This force the tie to a penalty shootout.
