Hanoi FC and Nam Dinh FC fined as flares blight V-League fixture

These fixtures, which includes a local derby against Viettel FC on September 15 and a tie against Quang Nam FC on October 6, will now take place in front of an empty stadium.

In addition to Hanoi FC, Nam Dinh FC were also fined VND85 million. Of the figure, VND70 million was due to fan setting off flares, while a further VND15 million was due to the bad behavior of fans, in particular their poor attitude towards security forces.

Nam Dinh supporters will also be banned from appearing at their two upcoming fixtures against Khanh Hoa FC on September 21 and Saigon FC on October 19.

The clash at the Hang Day stadium on September 11 saw one spectator and two police officers hospitalised after some 30 flares were ignited and thrown at home supporters and onto the arena’s athletics track, according to Tuoitrenews.

The final score line for the match saw Hanoi FC run out 6-1 winners over Nam Dinh FC 6-1, despite the game having to be halted for five minutes during the second half after a flares struck a female supporter in Stand A.

The woman was subsequently taken to hospital to receive emergency treatment before the game resumed.

Stand B, an area reserved for Nam Dinh FC fans, was the main source of the trouble with flares being lit and then thrown towards Stand A, where supporters of the hosts were seated, and onto the stadium’s athletics track.

The injured woman was later identified as Huyen Anh, a reporter at a Hanoi-based children’s newspaper.
