Four Vietnamese U23 players test negative for COVID-19
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U23 squad saw four footballers test negative for COVID-19 and one suspected case, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced after rapid tests in Cambodia on February 25 during the 2022 AFF U23 Championship.
These four players include Ho Van Cuong, Tran Manh Quynh, Hoang Van Toan, and captain Dung Quang Nho are waiting for the results of their RT-PCR test. If all show negative, then the nation’s U23s will have total 16 footballers for the final match against Thailand on February 26.
This comes following head coach Dinh The Nam using 13 footballers in the team’s semi-final match against Timor Leste, with goalkeeper Tran Liem Dieu forced to play as a striker due to the pandemic decimating the squad.
In the fixture against Timor Leste on February 24, striker Nguyen Trung Thanh and defender Doan Anh Viet both suffered injuries.
In addition to this, injuries to Phan Ba Quyen and Mai Xuan Quyet mean the pair still don’t know if they will be able to play in the final or not.
The VFF have therefore sought permission from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) to send new players to the AFF U23 Championship final with Thailand, with the AFF promising to consider Vietnam's proposal.
