First PPA Tour Asia women’s gold for Vietnam at Shenzhen Open 2026

In the women’s doubles final, Ho Thi Truc Tam and Sophia Huynh Tran defeated Lingwei Kong of China and Selina Turulja of Australia 2-1 to take gold, marking Vietnam’s first title in a women’s category on the PPA Tour Asia.

Truc Tam had previously come close to a title at the Macao Open 2026, but lost both the women’s singles and doubles finals. Sophia, meanwhile, had secured bronze in the women’s doubles at the Tokyo Open 2026.

Following their triumph in Shenzhen, Sophia teamed up with Vietnamese player Truong Vinh Hien for the mixed doubles final against Sahra Dennehy of Australia and Tama Shimabukuro of Hawaii.

The Vietnamese duo lost to Dennehy and Shimabukuro to settle for silver. Despite the defeat, the runner-up finish earned Vietnam its first mixed doubles medal of the 2026 PPA Tour Asia season.

The result also means Vietnamese pickleball has now won medals in all five divisions on this season’s tour, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

In addition to the women’s doubles gold and mixed doubles silver, Truong Vinh Hien took silver in the men’s singles. Hien won the opening game of the final against Grayson Goldin but eventually fell 1-2 (11-4, 9-11, 10-12) to the American player.
