FIFA to deepen cooperation with Vietnam on football development

In a letter sent to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on August 31, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, on behalf of the FIFA delegation, thanked VFF and its President Tran Quoc Tuan for the warm, sincere and thoughtful welcome extended during the visit.

Grafström also congratulated the Vietnamese national team on winning the ASEAN Cup 2026, praised the organisation of the tournament and said Vietnam’s ongoing football projects demonstrated a strong commitment to building an internationally-standard football foundation that could serve as a model for Southeast Asia.

Notably, the FIFA Secretary General expressed his wish to return to Vietnam soon to continue cooperation and support long-term football development projects.

During their recent visit to Vietnam, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström watched the ASEAN Cup 2026 final match, second leg, between hosts Vietnam and Thailand, at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi. They also held meetings with Vietnamese leaders and VFF officials and visited the PVF Football Academy in Hung Yen province. 

FIFA described Vietnam’s ASEAN Cup triumph as the result of a football development process involving the Vietnamese Football Federation and the Government.

The world’s football governing body also highlighted the rapid development of football in Southeast Asia and Vietnam’s strong potential, citing its large fan base, young talent and ongoing development projects.
