Duong Thuy Vi wins Vietnam's first medal at 2026 IWUF Taolu World Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnam's wushu team claimed its first two medals at the 2026 IWUF Taolu World Cup on the opening day of competition in China on July 7, with Duong Thuy Vi taking bronze in the women's jianshu event and Nguyen Van Sy winning silver in the men's jianshu event.
The fourth IWUF Taolu World Cup opened in China with top athletes from 30 countries and territories competing.
Duong Thuy Vi scored 9.730 points in the women's jianshu event to finish third and win the bronze medal. The result marked Duong's first international medal of 2026. Her previous international appearance came at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in 2025, where she finished outside the medals in the taolu events.
Duong won silver in the jianshu event at the 2024 IWUF Taolu World Cup in Japan. She will next compete in the qiangshu event.
Nguyen Van Sy added a silver medal in the men's jianshu event, which featured eight competitors. He scored 9.740 points to place second behind Chen Jinsong of Hong Kong, China, who won gold with 9.760 points. Ahmad Fuaiz of Indonesia took bronze with 9.736 points.
The 2026 IWUF Taolu World Cup is the fourth edition of the tournament organized by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
Vietnam is represented by three athletes at this year's competition, with Duong Thuy Vi the team's most experienced member.
