Da Nang-Vietnam arrives home

The Da Nang-Vietnam team finished sixth on the seventh leg of the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race at 3pm on February 17.

Crew of Derry~Londonderry-Doire won the leg after crossing the finish line first at the Han River Port in the morning.

The Da Nang-Vietnam team, led by skipper Wendy Tuck, had already won first place in the Clipper 70 class of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

She said the crew of Da Nang-Vietnam had received a warm welcome from the ambassadors of Viet Nam to South Africa and Sydney when the team stopped-over in Cape Town and Sydney.

Minh An, who is the first Vietnamese sailor to take part in a world race, said he was very happy to reach his home port.

"I'm very proud to race in a world event and introduce Viet Nam and Da Nang to the fleet. I hope my teammates will enjoy a beautiful time at the seaside," An said.

"I will show my teammates and friends Da Nang's local cuisine, culture and lifestyle during their 10-day stay."

The sailors and their families will take a two-day break before joining a series of activities including a photo exhibition, cultural performances, kayak racing, street music, a barefoot race on the beach and a local cuisine day.

Sailors will also exchange with children suffering from Agent Orange at a centre and on board.

The fleet will cruise along the Han River before leaving for Quingdao, China on February 27.
