Chinese players arrive in Hanoi for 2022 World Cup qualifier

VOV.VN - Boeing aircraft 787-9 Dreamliner of ANA airline touched down Noi Bai International Airport midnight Friday (January 28), bringing the coaching board and players to Vietnam for a World Cup qualifying clash with their hosts on February 1.

The delegation was led by Chen Xuyuan, president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA).

Upon their arrival, all members of the team were then transferred to Grand Plaza hotel where they underwent a COVID-19 test in line with COVID-19 guidelines.

The team are scheduled to have three warm-up exercises, starting on January 29, before their clash with hosts Vietnam at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.

The CFA recent appointed Li Xiaopeng as chief coach to succeed Li Tie, but China were stunned by Japan 0-2 in their World Cup qualifying match several days ago, losing hopes of cruising into the World Cup finals in Qatar.

In their first leg match, China overwhelmed Vietnam 3-2, including two goals scored by Wu Lei.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team coached by Park Hang-seo also lost 0-4 to Australia during their away match several days ago. They now stay at the bottom of the group and have no chance of entering the finals.
