China to play Vietnamese women's volleyball team in Asian Championship quarterfinals
VOV.VN - Vietnam will meet host China in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC)following the conclusion of the group stage on August 26.
China secured a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in Tianjin to close out the group stage. The win finalized the eight quarterfinalists: China, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and Vietnam.
Under tournament rules, 12 teams were drawn into three groups of four for a round-robin stage. The top two teams from each group automatically advanced to the knockout round, alongside the two best third-placed teams, with Vietnam grabbing one of the two wild-card spots.
China topped Group A with a perfect 3-0 record, arranging a quarterfinal clash against Vietnam.
The game marks a rematch between the two sides from the 2023 Asian Championship in Thailand, where head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team lost 0-3 to China in the semifinals. Vietnam ultimately finished fourth in that tournament, while China took the runner-up spot.
The quarterfinal matches are set to take place on August 27 and 28. The four ties feature China against Vietnam, Indonesia versus Iran, Japan taking on Chinese Taipei, and Thailand facing the RoK.
