Big names lined up to coach Vietnamese national team

VOV.VN - Following the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announcing the imminent departure of head coach Park Hang-seo, many renowned coaches in the world have contacted the VFF to apply for the position.

Among them is Robert Prosinecki, a member of Croatia’s national team which came third in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

Prosinecki worked as assistant manager of Croatia’s national team between 2006 and 2010 before managing Azerbaijan from 2014 to 2017 and Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2018 to 2019.

In addition, other coaches have drawn the attention of the VFF.

Dragan Skocic, former head coach of the Iran national team is one of them. In 2021 the Croatian coach entered a list of 25 managers to be nominated for the World Best National Coach award.

In 2020 he managed to take Iran to the 2022 World Cup as winners of Group A by recording 25 points from 10 matches in the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, setting Iran’s best performance in the World Cup qualifiers.

Slaven Skelezic, who was hired as the assistant manager to Miroslav Klose at the Bayern Munich U17 team in 2018, as well as Bozidar Bandovic who managed Buriram United FC of Thailand and was named Thai Premier League Coach of The Year 2018, are also among the list of candidates.

The VFF is currently preparing for its ninth congress on November 6 and the AFF Cup 2022. It is also considering selecting the best coach possible to replace Park whose contract is scheduled to expire in January 2023 after the AFF Cup.

It is likely that the new coach will be unveiled early next year.
