ASEAN sports officials inspect SEA Games venues in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Representatives of ASEAN countries’ sport delegations will on March 19 fan out to inspect competition venues of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to be hosted by Vietnam in May.

They will be divided into four groups to make fact-finding trips to venues in Hanoi capital and Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh provinces where most of competitions will take place.

In Hanoi alone, they will examine Vietnam’s preparations at My Dinh National Stadium, Water Sport Palace, National Sports Training Centre, Indoor Athletics Palace, Trinh Hoai Duc and Bac Tu Liem Gymnasiums.

At their second meeting in Hanoi on March 18, chiefs of ASEAN countries’ sport delegations looked into Vietnam’s preparations for the coming event, including logistics, public services, transportation, health and doping testing. Among issues of top concern are traffic, disease prevention and accommodation.

Addressing the meeting, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung affirmed Vietnam’s strong resolve to successfully organize the largest sporting event in the region.

SEA Games 31 is due to open at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on May 12 on the theme of Let’s shine. The closing ceremony is slated for May 23 at the same place.

Approximately 7,000 athletes have so far registered to take part in competitions. The deadline for applications is March 30.

About 3,000 domestic and foreign reporters have registered to give wide coverage of competitions throughout the event.
