AFF Cup 2022 final: Vietnam 2 – 2 Thailand

VOV.VN - Visitors Thailand have gained an advantage after holding hosts Vietnam to a 2-2 draw in their first leg of the AFF Cup 2022 final at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on January 13 evening.

Coach Park Hang-seo’s players used the pressing strategy, carving out several scoring chances, but only striker Tien Linh brought success with a header in the 24th minute.

Thai players shortly produced counter-attacks in an effort to get an equalizer. They several times threatened the Vietnamese goal, and it was goalkeeper Dang Van Lam who showed his excellent skill to keep a clean sheet in the first half.

Alexandre Polking’s players increased pressure in the second half, seeking ways to break the Vietnamese defence line.

Three minutes into the second half, Theerathon Bunmathan made a good long pass for Poramet who dribbled the ball past Ngoc Hai and then defeated goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, equalizing the score.

Theerathon once again brought obsession to the Vietnamese defense line. In the 64th minute, he poked a very smart slot for Peeradol to break the offside trap and beat goalkeeper Dang Van Lam again.

Park sent in Van Duc and Van Quyet, hoping to get an equalizer, and his players’ efforts were rewarded with Van Thanh’s goal in the 88th minute.

The 2-2 draw put Vietnam at a disadvantage in their away match in Thailand on January 16.
