AFF Cup 2020 likely to be postponed until the end of 2021

VOV.VN - AFF Cup 2020, a regional football tournament governed by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), is likely to be delayed until the end of 2021 instead of April 2021 as scheduled.

Under a proposal which is yet to be approved, the tournament is due to kick-off on December 5 and end on January 1, 2022.

If the plan gets the go-ahead, AFF will take place shortly after the 31st Southeast Asian games (SEA Games) to be hosted by Vietnam.

The new schedule means chief coach of the Vietnam national squad Park Hang-seo and his assistants will work harder to realize the goal of defending the championship title at the two tournaments.

Besides SEA Games and AFF Cup, Vietnamese men will play in the Asian region for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Vietnam currently top Group B ahead of Malaysia in second position. Their last group match will take place in June 2021.
