18-player squad named for international futsal tournament in Thailand
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has called up an 18-player national futsal squad, convening in Ho Chi Minh City on July 28 to prepare for the 2026 Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand.
The warm-up tournament offers a crucial test for head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi to evaluate his options and fine-tune the squad for upcoming major competitions.
The selection blends seasoned veterans with rising stars who starred in the recent 2026 Futsal HDBank National Championship.
A proven core forms the backbone of the squad, featuring star goalkeeper Ho Van Y and key outfield pillars such as Chau Doan Phat, Tran Thai Huy, and Nguyen Thinh Phat.
Coach Giustozzi has also given opportunities to several promising young players. Ala Huynh Van Hoai (Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City) earned his spot after an impressive domestic campaign. Fixo Nguyen Trong Kien kept his place after helping Thai Son Bac win its historic first national title in 16 years. His club teammate Nguyen Nhan Nam, a 2025 National U20 champion, earned his first senior call-up, while energetic ala Nguyen Thanh Tam (Sai Gon Titans) was rewarded for a strong season.
"The Continental Futsal Championship 2026 runs from August 1 to 6 in Nonthaburi, set to feature Russia, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Vietnam, and host nation Thailand in a single round-robin format."
The national team will kick off their campaign against Russia on August 1, before facing New Zealand on August 2, Afghanistan on August 3, and concluding against hosts Thailand on August 5.
The tournament provides the coaching staff a valuable opportunity to assess player performance, particularly young talents, ahead of upcoming official international competitions.
