10 young athletes qualify for 2026 Youth Olympics in Senegal
VOV.VN - Vietnam has officially secured 10 spots for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in Senegal from October 31 to November 13.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the allocation to the Vietnam Olympic Committee following the conclusion of the global qualification process. The 10 places are divided equally between five male and five female athletes across seven sports.
The allocated slots include swimming (one male, one female), athletics (one female), taekwondo (one male), badminton (one female), road cycling (one female), wushu (one male), and beach wrestling (two males, one female). National sports federations will now select qualified athletes to fill these positions according to official guidelines.
The 2026 Games mark the first time an African nation will host a Youth Olympic Games. The event features 25 sports, including 3x3 basketball, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, breaking, beach rowing, and wushu.
At the previous Youth Olympic Games in Argentina in 2018, Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals and one silver.
