World Radio Day 2023: Radio plays role in fostering peace

VOV.VN - In a pre-recorded video sent to the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) to mark World Radio Day 2023 themed Radio and Peace, the leadership of Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has affirmed radio’s role in assisting to reduce tensions, preventing conflicts and fostering peace by acting as a tool for humanitarian communication.

Following is the full text of the VOV leadership’s congratulatory message to AIBD.

Today, I am pleased to be here on behalf of Voice of Vietnam to honor each and every person who works on the radio and for the radio.

From news and public debate to music and entertainment, radio continues to inform, captivate and inspire us in a way that no other medium can. It reaches more people in more places than any other medium and offers a platform for all voices to speak out, be represented and heard.

In Vietnam, like many other parts of the world, we have experienced a time when people turn to trusted news sources such as VOV to get the most accurate content. Especially during difficult times, radio can serve to generate love for the nation, calling people to join hands and caring for each other.

The theme of this year’s World Radio Day is “Radio and Peace”. It comes at a time when we have to face up with growing misinformation and disinformation. More than ever, radio proves its value by delivering trustworthy content, assisting to reduce tensions, preventing conflicts and fostering peace by acting as a tool for humanitarian communication.

Let us commemorate and promote the importance of radio and its power in maintaining peace and transiting to a more peaceful world. Happy World Radio Day 2023!

Ngo Minh Hien

VOV Vice President
